Vocational Job Fair in Delhi Schools: Minister of Education Celebrates Achievements as Students Secure Job Offers
In a significant step towards preparing students for the workforce, the Delhi government is emphasising vocational training in its schools. This initiative, starting from Class 9, aims to directly link education with employment opportunities, as reflected in job fairs where companies offer provisional job offers to Class 12 students trained in vocational subjects.
The Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Rohini hosted such a job fair on Thursday, with the Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood in attendance. Senior officials and local MLA Rajkumar Chauhan also graced the occasion. More than 30 private enterprises, including Tech Mahindra, Haldiram, and HCL, participated in the event.
The growing demand for these courses indicates a student's awareness of their future and preparation for the workforce. In the previous academic year, over 4.2 lakh students in Delhi government schools opted for vocational courses, signaling a strong integration of skill-based learning into mainstream education.
Students can choose from various career-focused courses such as Information Technology, Healthcare, Electronics, Retail, and Logistics. The government collaborates with these private firms to provide real-world exposure and placements in entry-level roles like IT support, retail, operations, and customer service.
This vocational push aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for blending academic and vocational learning to make students more employable. The goal of this new emphasis is to ensure students have the resources needed for a prosperous career after graduation.
