Autumn internship student awards imminent, sources confirm - Upcoming development: Potential student internship stipends in the fall season
In a bid to help students make informed career decisions and gain practical experience, the Thuringian government is offering internship scholarships for students in various craft professions during the autumn holidays.
The crafts sector, an important employer in Thuringia, has been facing a shortage of trained workers. To address this issue, the government has been funding student internships in the crafts sector for several years. In 2024, 105,000 euros were provided from the state treasury for these internships.
The internships, open to students aged between 15 and 18, are available in various craft professions such as automotive mechatronics, plant mechanics, electronics, carpentry, baking, painting, roofing, and hearing acoustics. The scholarship for these internships is available for up to four weeks during self-organised holiday internships.
According to a survey by the Erfurt Chamber, more than half of the student interns in the area used two or more weeks for an on-site visit. The internships are aimed at providing students with the opportunity to learn about working conditions and requirements in the crafts sector.
The Thuringian Crafts Association, which is offering these internships, stated that the internship scholarship is a good tool for career orientation. Thomas Malcherek, the managing director of the Thuringian Crafts Association, mentioned that there is interest, especially among Abitur students.
However, it's important to note that there is currently no specific information available about a scholarship for school internships in Thuringian craft businesses for the upcoming autumn holidays in 2023. It's advisable to check directly with relevant local authorities such as the Thuringian Chamber of Crafts (Handwerkskammer Thüringen), local schools, or regional government websites for updated announcements. Alternatively, contacting craft businesses or internship coordinators in Thuringia could provide the most direct and current information.
The Ministry of Economics has announced that at least 150,000 euros will be provided for student internships in the crafts sector in 2025. However, there is currently no assurance from the Ministry of Economics for the next two years regarding the continuation of funding for the internship scholarship. The Thuringian government is currently negotiating the draft of a double budget for the next two years, to be submitted to the state parliament in September.
The crafts sector hopes that the state will continue to fund the internship scholarship in the coming years, as it plays a crucial role in helping young people find their dream job and addressing the shortage of trained workers in the sector.
The Thuringian government, through community policy initiatives, is offering financial support for vocational training internships in the form of scholarships during the autumn holidays, focusing on various craft professions as a means to mitigate the shortage of trained workers in the sector. These internships, which are open to students aged between 15 and 18, are part of a broader education-and-self-development strategy, aimed at providing practical experience and learning opportunities about working conditions and requirements in the crafts sector. It's important for those interested in such internships to stay informed by checking directly with local authorities, craft businesses, or internship coordinators.
