New Appointment: Eileen Strempel, founding dean of The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, joins the Board of Directors for the International Council of Fine Arts Deans

UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music's founding dean, Eileen Strempel, appointed to the Board of Directors of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans.

The International Council of Fine Arts Deans (ICFAD) continues to be a significant force in the global arts community, particularly within higher education, as it advocates for and advances arts education worldwide.

One of the latest developments in ICFAD's journey is the appointment of Eileen Strempel, the inaugural dean of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, onto its board of directors. Strempel's service is expected to amplify the impact of the Herb Alpert School of Music, a leader in transcending national and disciplinary boundaries.

On February 10, Strempel will facilitate a conversation on Budgets and Fiscal Management for ICFAD's New Deans Discussions series. She will be joined by Sabrina Madison-Cannon, Dean and Professor of Dance, School of Music & Dance, University of Oregon.

ICFAD, founded in response to the need for an organization of fine arts administrators, has a long and preeminent presence as an influential advocate for the arts. It identifies transformational opportunities for the arts and articulates arts accomplishments and activities in higher education institutions.

The organization hosts an annual conference for discussions, presentations, and networking among deans. The community is invited to join in congratulating Eileen Strempel on her appointment to the ICFAD board.

ICFAD is a multinational alliance of executive academic visual and performing arts, design, and media administrators representing institutions of higher education. It offers a variety of leadership development workshops and symposia, facilitating forums for the global exchange of ideas, information, and opportunities for presidents, provosts, deans, and fundraising professionals in the arts.

In addition to professional development, ICFAD works to establish standards and benchmarks for fine arts education, helping institutions maintain high quality in their academic programs. It also encourages academic research and scholarship in the arts, promoting the generation and dissemination of knowledge that enriches both the arts community and society at large.

By embracing a global outlook, ICFAD helps fine arts institutions navigate international trends and challenges, adapting education models to a diverse and interconnected world. This influence ultimately contributes to sustaining and elevating the cultural, social, and economic impact of the arts worldwide.

Strempel's term on the ICFAD board will last for three years, and the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA is grateful for her exceptional leadership and service to the global musical community. Strempel expressed excitement about deepening the commitment to excellence in global arts leadership and advocacy in higher education.

ICFAD was the first organization to provide a national network of fine arts administrators to advance the arts and bring greater respect and impact for the arts. Its role in higher education extends beyond administrative support—it helps shape the future of arts education by fostering leadership, encouraging innovation, and strengthening the global arts academic community.

  1. Eileen Strempel's service on ICFAD's board of directors is expected to not only amplify the impact of the Herb Alpert School of Music, but also to contribute to the fostering of innovation and leadership in the field of education and self-development, particularly within the arts.
  2. As ICFAD promotes academic research and scholarship in the arts, advocating for high quality in fine arts education, and encouraging a global exchange of ideas, technology is an essential tool that can be integrated into their educational strategies to better prepare students for a diverse and interconnected world, enhancing their lifestyle and social impact.
