TU Dresden's 'CeTIBAR' Lab Opens, Showcasing Robots in the Kitchen
The 'CeTIBAR', a pioneering research lab at TU Dresden, opened its doors on October 1, 2020, with an impressive lineup of guests including Saxon Minister President Michael Kretschmer, Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow, and TU Dresden's President, Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger. The lab, located in the Barkhausen Building, showcased an innovative collaboration between robots and a human chef.
The 'CeTIBAR' is dedicated to exploring the future of the tactile internet and robotics. On its opening day, it demonstrated this commitment by having collaborative robots, or 'Cobots', assist a star chef in serving a meal. The Cobots handled tasks such as plating, serving, and decorating, allowing the chef to focus on preparing the main dishes. This display highlighted the lab's aim to make the capabilities of collaborative robots tangible and accessible.
The lab fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together researchers from various fields within the excellence cluster. Its goal is not just to advance technology but also to inspire the next generation of innovators. In the face of skilled worker shortages, the lab sees Cobots as tools to support human labor rather than replace it.
The 'CeTIBAR' at TU Dresden's Barkhausen Building has set a new standard for robotics research and innovation. By showcasing the potential of collaborative robots in everyday tasks, it has opened up new avenues for exploration and inspired dialogue among researchers and the public alike.
