Thriving Montana Museum of Art and Culture Experiences Success in Initial Months of Operation
Montana Museum of Art and Culture Opens New Building on University Campus
The Montana Museum of Art and Culture (MMAC) has a new home on the University of Montana campus, and it's making waves. The three-story building, located next to the Adams Center, has been a beacon of excitement since its opening nearly two months ago.
For decades, the MMAC's collection of nearly 12,000 objects has been hidden away in a vault under the PARTV building. But now, the museum is ready to share a portion of its treasures with the public.
Rafael Chacon, the MMAC's director, expressed his enthusiasm for the new location, stating that the museum has been promising a chance to see the collection for decades. The ground floor of the new building is dedicated to classroom space and collection access, providing an ideal setting for educational outreach events.
The MMAC plans to start by displaying 400 objects from its collection, with the intention of rotating the selection over the next two years. After the rotation, the MMAC will curate exhibitions based on their Permanent Collection.
The new building's opening has been beneficial for both the museum and the community. According to Chacon, the museum has seen increased community engagement since its opening, with many visitors being students from the university.
The MMAC's old location was hidden away among the Dennison Theater in the PARTV building. In contrast, the new building stands out on the University campus, attracting higher visitor numbers than ever before.
The MMAC believes that having a new home will allow for improved educational outreach events. The new building not only houses the museum's collection but also provides classroom space, ensuring a seamless integration of education and art.
As the MMAC continues to move and catalog its extensive collection into the new space, it is looking forward to displaying a larger portion of its collection in the near future. For the latest updates on the collection move and exhibition schedules, visitors are encouraged to check the museum’s official website or contact them directly.
The Montana Museum of Art and Culture (MMAC) is now an integral part of the university community, offering a unique lifestyle experience for its visitors with the opening of its new home-and-garden building. This educational-and-self-development hub, with its dedication to classroom space and collection access, promises to rent out space for various events and workshops.
