Three Dead in Laqliaa Attack: GenZ 212 Demands Reforms

Three people lost their lives in Laqliaa, Morocco, after an attack on a Royal Gendarmerie post. The incident, which occurred on October 1, 2025, was carried out by a loosely structured youth group called 'Gen Z 212', demanding reforms in healthcare, education, and social justice. The Gendarmerie responded by opening fire, leading to the deaths. The Public Prosecutor's Office has since launched an investigation.

The attack involved armed individuals using white weapons, who managed to seize a vehicle and four motorcycles. They attempted to take ammunition, equipment, and weapons from the Gendarmerie personnel. The protests, initially peaceful, escalated in Rabat after three days of government silence. Acts of vandalism, fires, and violence during the protests can result in prison sentences of up to 20 years.

Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch has expressed openness to dialogue to address the youth protests. The organization behind the protests, Gen Z 212, has demanded investigations into the Laqliaa incident. The protests have resulted in 354 injuries, including 326 security agents.

The Laqliaa incident has sparked an investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office. The Moroccan government is open to dialogue to address the demands of Gen Z 212 and prevent further violence. The incident has highlighted the need for reforms in healthcare, education, and social justice, as demanded by the protesting youth.
