Thousands of Adecco employees lend aid to jobless youth worldwide once more

On March 26, the world's leading Human Resources solutions provider is set to launch its annual "Street Day" initiative, a program aimed at addressing youth unemployment. This global initiative will see all 900 French branches of the company open for the event [1].

The initiative focuses on bridging the skills gap between employers' needs and the skills possessed by youth, promoting inclusivity, and encouraging entrepreneurship as an alternative to traditional employment. It also fosters partnerships among governments, employers, and educational institutions to support youth employment through innovative technologies and job placement programs [1].

Key objectives of "Street Day" include reducing youth unemployment rates, improving career opportunities and quality of life for young people, addressing discrimination and access barriers, promoting inclusive economic growth, and measuring program impact to continually refine its effectiveness [1].

Expected outcomes of the initiative are decreased youth unemployment rates due to enhanced skills and job placements, increased earning potential through practical experiences like internships and apprenticeships, improved job satisfaction by aligning jobs with individual skills and interests, development of a skilled future workforce for businesses, and increased community engagement through collaborations with local businesses and stakeholders [2].

In the US and Europe alone, there are 8 million vacant jobs, highlighting the urgent need for such initiatives [2]. The initiative offers 1000 free coaching sessions, educational material, and online resources to help young people prepare for the job market [1].

The "Street Day" event is part of the wider our Way to WorkTM programme. Over 7000 employees from the company will participate in this initiative in 50 countries. In the UK, the company has planned 200 activities, including visits to 30 colleges and 26 schools. In Spain, the company will be active in 110 locations and five universities for 'Street Day' [1].

In the US, the company's Staffing branches will conduct workshops in 20 universities. In Japan, 100 colleagues of the company will participate in 'Street Day' in four cities. Additional activities are scheduled across Asia and Latin America [1].

Structural reforms are needed to prepare the workforce of tomorrow. The second Global Talent Competitiveness Index published by INSEAD and HCLI of Singapore suggests that countries investing in educational systems and combining schooling with vocational training are better at talent creation and retention [2].

Unemployment, particularly among young people, is a significant issue, with more than 200 million people worldwide unemployed. Almost 40% of the unemployed are 25 or younger. The goal of the initiative is to address this issue by equipping young people with essential skills, knowledge, and work experience to increase their employability and job retention [1].

In an effort to further engage young job seekers and school leavers, until May 1st, young people in 33 countries can participate in the 'CEO for One Month' programme, including the chance to become the company's 'Global CEO for One Month' [1]. Group CEO, Patrick De Maeseneire, will participate in 'Street Day' in Amsterdam [1].

Skills shortages and talent mismatches are worsening in the rest of the world, damaging human capital and productivity. The company's initiatives, such as 'Street Day' and 'CEO for One Month', aim to address these issues and contribute to a more skilled and productive global workforce [2].
