Hear ye, hear ye! Here's the scoop on what's been catching the eyes and ears of our parliamentary peeps this week.

Words of the Week

"It's not for sale and it will never be for sale," said Prime Minister Mark Carney during his meet-up with U.S. President Donald Trump. This gem came up in their friendly chat in the Oval Office.

Number of the Week

Up to 25% of a doctor's paycheck could swing around like a pendulum, thanks to the Quebec government's proposed bill on "collective responsibility and accountability."

"Tough Luck"

The Bloc Québécois isn't keen on the New Democratic Party's request for recognition as an officially minted House of Commons party. And to drive the point home, they say, "Tough Luck!" In 2015, the Bloc Québécois flaunted a mighty 10 MPs but were treated like yesterday's news. According to their leader, Yves-François Blanchet, the NDP should just accept they're out of luck, as they only have 7 reps after the last round of elections.

Podcast Dip

Fans of "Bonjour tout le monde," Quebec Premier François Legault's podcast, may find the recent news a tad disappointing. Although he didn't close the book on a second season entirely, dropping the mic for now is a possibility. The ratings didn't quite meet expectations, and the time Legault invested in the project didn't seem worth the little attention it garnered. Some folks have deemed it a blessing, as they're now free to follow Legault's videos on his Facebook page instead.

Deaf to the King

The Bloc Québécois leader, Yves-François Blanchet, will give King Charles' Speech from the Throne a miss. Blanchet thinks it's a strange move for Prime Minister Mark Carney to suggest that the presence of the British monarch rekindles Canada's sovereignty amidst annexationist babble from the White House. Blanchet prefers to keep his fingers in his ears about the whole affair.

Online National Counsel for QS

Quebec Solidaire has thrown its hat in the ring with a new bill advocating for the enshrining of the right to telework. Starting from now, most national councils will take place online, as they aren't usually pulsating with hot debate over pressing issues but mainly focus on internal party sausage-making. Don't worry; there'll still be in-person events such as congresses, though they'll be crucial given the recent resignation of Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois as spokesperson. Sol Zanetti and Alexandre Leduc are preparing to put their hats in the ring for the position.

Back in the Family

Independent MP Marie-Claude Nichols may still be legally riding solo, but in spirit, she's already back with the Quebec Liberal Party, having endorsed Pablo Rodriguez in the leadership race. Nichols went as far as to remind Health Minister Christian Dubé that the construction of the new hospital project in Vaudreuil-Soulanges was a successful Liberal endeavor. Despite some unanswered queries about the delayed opening of a university family medicine group in her district, Liberal MP André Fortin swooped in to help. It seems Nichols is well and truly back in the Liberal fold.

Birthday Blessings

The National Assembly played happy birthday to CAQ president and MNA Nathalie Roy this week, with party members from all corners extending their well-wishes. Roy felt moved by the warmth, sharing that her political "family" means the world to her.

Renovation Région Reboot

The Renovation Région program has been reactivated, with Housing Minister France-Élaine Duranceau coughing up 9.2 million smackers. The program, which was originally axed, is intended to help renovate the homes of the poorest citizens in struggling regions. Local elected officials are hoping that Duranceau can squeeze an additional 10 million into the budget by the time of the economic update to fully restore the program.
