The Dominion of Longevity

In the realm of modern thinking, the pursuit of longevity has taken centre stage, attracting a diverse range of individuals from tech billionaires to political leaders. Among these figures are US tech billionaire Peter Thiel and world leaders like Putin and Xi, who view longevity as a means to bypass the humbling reality of mortality, seeking instead the elusive promise of eternal life.

Peter Thiel, a libertarian-leaning political influencer and a key player in the tech industry, has shown a keen interest in longevity and anti-aging technologies. He has funded research aimed at extending human life and potentially achieving forms of immortality. This interest is coupled with a broader vision that emphasizes rapid technological innovation and regulatory deregulation to advance these areas. Thiel's approach is rooted in a libertarian worldview that prioritizes individual freedom and market-driven progress as means to surpass biological limitations on lifespan.

The concept of longevity is not merely about health optimization and lifespan extension. It is a lifelong process that encompasses working on one's mind, body, and soul. External factors such as quality healthcare, education, low pollution levels, equitable wealth distribution, good educational opportunities for all children, low poverty rates, low crime rates, affordable cost of living, clean groundwater, and good living conditions all play crucial roles in this journey.

In the United States, the scene of companies, startups, and influencers peddling supposed secrets about longevity is closely linked to the MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) movement led by Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Jr. RFK Jr., known for his controversial stance, has been known to fire hundreds of employees in health agencies, suggesting a disregard for traditional health systems.

One of RFK Jr.'s top advisors, Dr. Casey Means, made waves when she stated on the Joe Rogan podcast that those who were metabolically healthy did not die from Covid. However, it's important to note that this statement should be considered in the context of ongoing scientific research and not taken as definitive medical advice.

An army of health influencers, including Vani Hari, also known as "The Food Babe," sell their products and books about living healthily. While their intentions may be well-meaning, it's crucial to approach their advice with a critical eye, as not all health advice is created equal.

In Germany, the disparity in life expectancy between people with low and high incomes is over ten years, highlighting the significant impact that socio-economic factors can have on an individual's lifespan. This underscores the importance of addressing systemic issues in order to promote longevity for all.

As we navigate this complex and evolving landscape, it's essential to approach the pursuit of longevity with a holistic and nuanced understanding, recognising that it is not a simple matter of extending lifespan, but a journey that encompasses physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, as well as the societal and environmental factors that shape our lives.
