Swedish Teens Arrive in Greifswald for Long-Standing Exchange Program

Fifteen teenagers from Lund, Sweden, and two teachers have arrived in Greifswald for an exchange program, marking the latest chapter in a long-standing partnership between the two cities. The students will spend a week exploring Greifswald and its surroundings, fostering international understanding through educational and cultural exchange.

The exchange program began yesterday with the Swedish students exploring Greifswald city. Today, they were officially welcomed at the town hall. Throughout their stay, the students will live with host families in Greifswald, providing an immersive cultural experience. The exchange with Polhemskolan in Lund has been ongoing since 2001, with students meeting regularly.

The planned activities in Lund include a hike through the Söderåsen nature reserve and a trip to Mälmö. The Swedish students have also planned excursions to Berlin and Usedom Island. In Greifswald, they will cycle together to Wieck and the Eldena monastery ruins this afternoon. The exchange program involves schools such as the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Schule Greifswald, aiming to promote international understanding and language learning. Some students learn German, others Swedish during the exchange.

The Swedish students will spend a week in Greifswald, exchanging experiences with peers from the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Gymnasium. In early October, Greifswald students will reciprocate the visit, travelling to their Swedish partner city, Lund. This exchange program, supported by initiatives like Erasmus+, continues to strengthen the bond between the two cities and their students.
