Sweden's Social Democrats Demand EU Support for Palestinians, Sanctions on Israel

Swedish Social Democrats, led by Magdalena Andersson and Morgan Johansson, have urged the EU and Sweden to boost support for Palestinian authorities and UNRWA. They also proposed sanctions against Israeli settlers and ministers, and a law to halt trade with goods from occupied lands.

Andersson and Johansson, the party's foreign policy spokesperson, welcomed the growing international recognition of Palestine as a state. They criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government for obstructing this recognition.

The duo proposed freezing trade agreements with Israel and imposing sanctions on extreme settlers and ministers. However, no government has yet adopted these demands. Instead, the German CDU/CSU bloc has blocked German financial aid to the Palestinian Authority and ruled out trade sanctions against Israel.

While Sweden's Social Democrats call for increased support to Palestinian autonomy and sanctions on Israeli settlers, no government has yet adopted these proposals. The German government, meanwhile, has taken a different stance, blocking financial aid and ruling out sanctions.
