Summer Camp at Enzweiler Building Institute Provides Practical Learning Opportunities to 41 Local High School Students
Enzweiler Building Institute's Annual Summer Camp Inspires Next Generation of Skilled Workers
The Enzweiler Building Institute (EBI) hosted its annual Summer Camp for Youth from June 23-25, with 41 high school students participating in the event held at EBI's Erlanger campus. This hands-on program, aimed at introducing students to skilled trades careers, provided practical experience and exposure to the building trades.
The camp, a key initiative in addressing the skilled labor shortage in the Northern Kentucky region, was held in partnership with NaviGo Scholars, a regional workforce readiness initiative. Diane McConnell, Director of Workforce Development for the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky, stated that the goal is to inspire, inform, and excite students about the possibility of working in the skilled trades.
Each workshop provided real-world exposure to a specific trade, with offerings including carpentry, welding, plumbing, and electrical. The students received guidance from experienced instructors and local industry professionals, learning not only technical skills but also teamwork and problem-solving.
The camp aimed to introduce students to careers in the skilled trades that they might not have considered. Many students who attended the camp expressed enthusiasm about returning for more training. Parents of the camp attendees praised the program for its structure, quality, and impact.
