Students at Sha High School collaborate with the Museum of Ice Cream for a hands-on, educational engagement.
In the vibrant city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Alene Bouranova, a Pacific Northwest native and Boston University (BU) alum (COM'16), resides among her beloved plants. When she's not tending to her green companions, Alene can be found immersed in her work as a dedicated writer and editor at Boston University.
Alene's professional journey began at Boston University Today and Bostonia magazine, where she has made significant contributions to the publication. Her articles span a wide range of topics, from hospitality education and experiential learning to sensitive international issues such as accusations of genocide in Gaza, a piece she authored in June 2024.
Recently, Alene penned an article for BU Today on August 15, 2025, about hospitality students partnering with the Museum of Ice Cream for experiential learning. This piece showcases her ability to tackle diverse subjects with precision and insight.
Beyond her work with Boston University Today and Bostonia magazine, Alene has also been involved in academic and student-centered writing activities at BU. This was evident in her participation in the Boston University Center for International Studies and Science’s 2025 Social Science Writing Internship Program Showcase in early August 2025.
Alene's colleague, Jackie Ricciardi, also plays a pivotal role at BU Today and Bostonia magazine. As a staff photojournalist, Jackie has captured the essence of the university and its events through her lens. Her exceptional work has been recognised twice, earning her the title of New Hampshire Press Photographer of the Year.
Jackie's photography career extends beyond Boston University, having worked as a staff photographer at the Augusta Chronicle in Augusta, Ga., and at Seacoast Media Group in Portsmouth, N.H.
Both Alene and Jackie continue to enrich BU Today with their respective talents. Alene covers campus happenings, current events, and more, while Jackie captures these moments in stunning images.
