Streamlined Job Hunting for Young Candidates: The Plazza App

In an era where artificial intelligence is taking over various professional sectors, a new job platform named Plazza is making waves in the student community. Officially launched on August 31, Plazza aims to streamline the job search process for young graduates.

Plazza allows candidates to centralize all their job search and communication with potential employers on a single mobile application. With one click, candidates can apply and be kept informed of the progress of the process. The application is currently free, but the founders are considering making it paid through a subscription for employers in the future.

The platform has attracted nearly 150 employers representing approximately 5,000 establishments in Quebec and Canada. These employers come from various sectors, including restaurant and hospitality groups, stores, banks, insurance companies, municipalities, health, engineering, and administration sectors. Employers can present their needs, such as salary offered, number of hours per week, required skills, type of position, and talk more about their company.

An algorithm calculates a match rate with the job offers displayed by employers, based on the candidate's profile which includes their CV, availability, salary expectations, and areas of interest. This feature helps candidates find job opportunities that best suit their skills and preferences.

The hesitance of employers to hire young people entering the job market has been attributed to labor shortages in recent years. Noted economists from the Desjardins Movement published an analysis early September, stating that this trend has led to the highest unemployment rate among young adults since the last financial crisis in 2009, except for the pandemic. The unemployment rate among 15-24 year-olds in Canada was 14.6% in July 2021, compared to 5.8% among those aged 25-54.

While artificial intelligence is increasingly taking over professional internships and first jobs typically occupied by young graduates, Plazza provides a platform where these young individuals can find job opportunities that cater to their skills and interests.

In other news, a Montrealer was acquitted of theft during a sexual encounter, as ruled by Judge Ann-Mary Beauchemin. This case highlights the importance of understanding the nuances of consent in such situations.

Meanwhile, YouTube has recently speeded up their AI model Veo 3, one of the most powerful in the video sector. This advancement is expected to improve the platform's ability to detect and remove inappropriate content. However, it's crucial to remember that AI tools are not infallible and human oversight is still necessary to ensure fair and accurate decisions.
