Schnevdingen KGS Introduces 'Basic Stage' for Grades 5 & 6
The KGS in Schneverdingen is set to introduce a 'basic stage' for grades 5 and 6, starting next school year. This move, the second of its kind in the state, aims to simplify school choice for children and parents. The new system will see 5th grade classes taught together in most subjects, without prior selection of the school branch. This change follows a similar initiative at the KGS in Wiesmoor and is supported by the Ministry of Culture under the new KGS regulation of 2023. The concept was developed through collaborative discussions involving parents, teachers, students, and the state school authority. It addresses parents' concerns about the pressure of deciding on the further school form during grade 4. The school board and general conference also backed the idea. The division into school branches will now take place from grade 7, with the final decision being made by the conference at the end of grade 6. The principal of the KGS in Schneverdingen believes that the separation of school branches in grade 5 occurs too early. Meanwhile, the Heinz-Neukäter-Schule in Varel is also introducing a 'Grundstufenzug' for grades 5 and 6, joining the KGS in Wiesmoor in this initiative. The introduction of the basic stage at the KGS in Schneverdingen, following the KGS in Wiesmoor, aims to ease the school choice process for children and parents. The change, supported by the Ministry of Culture, will see the division into school branches delayed until grade 7.
