Rīga Stradiņš University Introduces Enhanced Medicine Studies Plan for 2025
Riga Stradins University (RSU), Latvia's preeminent institution for medical education, unveils an enhanced Medicine study program slated for launch in autumn 2025. The new curriculum aims to arm students with the skills needed to tackle today's complex healthcare landscape.
Key features of the revised program include advanced research training, digital competencies, medical law, and military medicine. The program has long been a cornerstone of RSU's commitment to quality and forward-thinking education, with nearly 500 students completing the program in 2024.
The updated curriculum mirrors the fast-evolving global healthcare environment with its cutting-edge knowledge, broader course offerings, and revised teaching methodologies. Students will be equipped with the tools to not only adapt to change but to lead it.
Research and scientific thinking will be a primary focus, with students honing skills in formulating research objectives, critically analyzing literature, and interpreting data. A new course in medical law will delve into both Latvian and international legislation, while civil defense and military medicine will address emerging global realities.
To ensure alignment with global standards, the program is under review for accreditation by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).
One of RSU's unique approaches to medical training is the use of high-fidelity simulations at its Medical Education Technology Centre (METC). The only simulation centre of its kind in Latvia and the largest in the Baltics, METC has trained over 28,000 students, providing them with practical experience in a safe, controlled environment that mimics real-life clinical scenarios.
As digital tools, artificial intelligence, legal knowledge, and entrepreneurial skills play increasingly significant roles in medicine, students will learn to navigate and leverage these technologies for improved patient outcomes and future healthcare systems.
The updated Medicine program underscores RSU's mission to deliver high-quality, forward-thinking education that prepares students to confront contemporary healthcare challenges head-on. With a modern curriculum, an international outlook, and a commitment to excellence, RSU remains the premier choice for aspiring doctors in the Baltics and beyond.
The updated program draws on input from students, healthcare professionals, and international partners and is currently under review for accreditation by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The revised approach combines cutting-edge theory with hands-on training, including simulation exercises at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre, the largest of its kind in the Baltics.
In 2024, RSU boasted nearly 12,000 students, including 26% international students from 82 countries. Last year, nearly 500 students graduated from the Medicine program, with 92% securing stable employment in Latvia and abroad. RSU's extensive network of over 100 partner clinics across Europe and 15 study centres outside Latvia further cements its commitment to practical and globally relevant education.
Applications for the new program will soon be open. For more information, visit www.rsu.lv.
