Rhode Island: The Ocean State Unveiled
Rhode Island has seen a significant influx of funding for historical preservation and archival projects, aimed at safeguarding the state's rich cultural heritage.
In a notable move, a $1 million historic preservation grant program was approved by Rhode Island voters in March 2021 as part of a bond issue. The Rhode Island Supreme Court, the Rhode Island State Historical Records Advisory Board, Rhode Island Office of the Secretary of State, Rhode Island State Archives Division, Providence, RI, the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society, the Rhode Island Historical Society, Brown University, Rhode Island College, and several other institutions have also received grants for various projects, ranging from establishing active archival programs to digitizing historical records.
These initiatives underscore a commitment to both structural preservation of historical sites and archival/educational projects to safeguard Rhode Island’s cultural heritage. The total grants awarded for records projects and publications projects in Rhode Island amount to $4,490,632.
