Pupils Craft Resilient Academic Routines for Long-term Achievement
In the vibrant academic community of College of the Holy Cross, students like Molly Landis '27 and Owen Whaley '24 are learning the importance of time management and developing habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.
Molly Landis, a junior, has found that using office hours in high school was a valuable tool for understanding material and building relationships with teachers. This practice continues in college, as she recognizes the importance of seeking help when needed. She is also working on developing better habits for going to bed at a reasonable time to improve productivity.
Landis is not alone in her pursuit of academic success. The Holy Cross College Honors Program, which unites students from multiple disciplines, provides an environment where intellectual curiosity thrives. Unlike some honours programs, the Holy Cross College Honors Program does not require students to apply based on high school GPA. Instead, it selects students based on academic excellence at the College.
Owen Whaley, a senior, is planning to attend law school and become an attorney. He believes that the habits he has developed at Holy Cross will be instrumental in helping him achieve his goals. Whaley finds Google Calendar helpful for budgeting time and improving productivity. He advises underclassmen to focus on one task at a time to do it well.
The main reading room of Dinand Library is another beneficial resource for academic success and personal well-being. Its structured environment enhances concentration, making it an ideal place to study and work. Seniors at Holy Cross completed their final course enrollment on November 6, making the most of the resources available to them.
College life at Holy Cross requires many adjustments due to increased class rigor and distractions. However, the habits that students develop reflect the transformative impact of a college education. College education offers students the opportunity to learn about themselves and develop skills and habits that will remain with them throughout their life and career.
