Recommendation made for a safeguard plan for youth in case of mishaps; Commission tasked to draft a related directive.

Proposal for a young people's safety directive in accident scenarios requested by the Commission.

The Herford district in Germany has once again organised the distribution of glow warning vests as part of the European Mobility Week. This annual event, known as "Walking to Kindergarten", has been ongoing since 2017 and aims to promote traffic safety for kindergarten children.

Over 1,500 signal warning vests will be distributed to the three-year-olds in the over 130 kindergartens across the district this year. These vests, which bear the district's climate protection logo, make the children highly visible and contribute to their independence and safety in road traffic.

Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen, from the Mobility Management of the Herford district, expressed her delight at every kindergarten that picks up its vests. She also expressed her willingness to advise kindergartens for Mobility Week, encouraging them to get in touch via email or telephone.

The distribution of the vests is not only a safety measure but also a step towards the mobility transition. By encouraging children to walk to kindergarten, the district is supporting climate protection by reducing the use of cars for everyday routes.

The vests are also intended to encourage small pedestrians and their parents to walk to kindergarten together, even in the dark season. This initiative not only promotes traffic safety but also fosters a culture of walking and cycling at daycare centres.

Some kindergartens have already taken advantage of the offer for Mobility Week actions, but the search results do not provide specific information about which institutions joined the "Mobilitätswoche" action day in the Herford district this year. However, Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen expressed her happiness about every further institution that joins in the actions for Mobility Week.

The response to the glow warning vest action has been positive so far, with the district delivering the vests to the town halls of the cities and municipalities for collection by the institutions. There are no limits to creativity for actions during Mobility Week, according to Sabine Höner zu Siederdissen, making it an exciting opportunity for kindergartens to come up with innovative ways to promote walking and cycling.

For more information or to participate in next year's "Walking to Kindergarten" initiative, kindergartens can contact the Mobility Management of the district via email (mobilitaetsmanagement@our website) or telephone (05221/13-2290).
