Potential Leader Emerging Within Valencian PP, Ready to Steer Party if Adequate Members Support Him

3 minutes. Ex-President of the Generalitat, Francisco Camps, mulls taking the reins of the 'populars' in the Valencian Community if his fellow party members show strong backing for his bid.

Camps spilled the beans, telling RNE microphones that he's been huddling with a crew of folk from the three provinces of the region to conjure up a project aimed at revitalizing a party that, in his view, is in dire need of a reboot.

On May 10, Camps voiced concerns about the party's waning momentum to over 1,600 partygoers at a Valencian gathering. He went a step further this week, deeming it a "moral obligation" for the regional elections slated for 2027 that the party regains the majority it once enjoyed in the region.

Camps endorses Feijóo

Camps argued that a majority in the Valencian Community guarantees a majority for the PP on a national scale. Simultaneously, he lauded Feijóo's leadership, stating that the 'popular' leader is the key to success for Spain.

In light of this, Camps pledged his support for Feijóo's re-election bid at the National Congress and encouraged every party member in the Valencian Community to rally behind him. When asked if he's conveyed his intentions to Camps, he admitted he hasn't to a significant degree as he's currently focusing on supporting Feijóo in retaining the presidency.

Current mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, is another possible candidate for the leadership position in the Partido Popular in the Valencian Community. Yet, Camps claimed he's clueless about the potential contenders and insisted he has his own proposal, although he acknowledges that others might harbor ambitions.

Camps vouches for Mazón's flood recovery work

Camps praised Carlos Mazón's efforts in leading the flood recovery project in Valencia, which was ravaged by the October 29 catastrophe. Camps believes Mazón and his team are working tirelessly to address the issues stemming from the flood as swiftly and meticulously as possible.
