Park University's International Center for Music to Stage Second Performance of 2021-22 Orchestra Series
Prepare for an enchanting evening of symphonic music as the Park University International Center for Music Orchestra presents its second concert of the 2021-22 season on November 5, 7:30 p.m., inside Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the Parkville Campus.
This special event will be under the direction of guest conductor, David Stewart Wiley, a renowned American conductor known for his work with various orchestras and ensembles in the US and internationally.
The concert programme promises a captivating blend of timeless compositions and contemporary works. Highlights include Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto for Two Violins and Strings in D Minor, S. 1043, featuring ICM violin graduate students David Horak and Orin Laursen as soloists.
You'll also enjoy Edward Elgar's Serenade for String Orchestra in E Minor, Op. 20, Dimitry Shostakovich's Symphony for Strings [String Quartet No. 8], Op. 110, George Walker's 'Lyric for Strings', and a composition by David Stewart Wiley titled "Concentric Circles".
In adherence to safety measures, masks are required inside the Chapel, and social distance seating will be implemented. Admission to the concert is free, but reservations are requested by emailing Gus Fernandez Agreda.
David Stewart Wiley, a past winner of the Aspen Conducting Prize, has an impressive career that includes music directorships and collaborations with orchestras in different countries. He has served as assistant conductor of both the Minnesota Orchestra and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
In recognition of his significant contributions to the arts, Wiley received the Roanoke Citizen of the Year award in 2015 and a similar award from the Roanoke branch of the NAACP in 2009. Currently, he serves as the music director and conductor of the Roanoke (Va.) Symphony Orchestra since 1996.
