Park University Hosting Discussion on Black History Month, Featuring Gwendolyn Grant
Gwendolyn Grant Honoured with Multiple Awards for Her Dedication to Social Justice
Gwendolyn Grant, a distinguished figure in Kansas City, has been recognised for her tireless work in advocating for social justice, civil rights, and parity. The latest accolade added to her impressive list of achievements is the 2022 National Urban League's Women of Power Award.
Grant, who serves as the president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City, has been a champion for change, bringing the plights of African Americans and women to the forefront. Her dedication to these causes extends beyond her role at the Urban League, as she also serves on the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education and Workforce Development.
In 1995, Grant made history by becoming the first female CEO of the ULGKC. Since then, she has been instrumental in driving the organisation's mission forward. As the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Urban League's State of Black Kansas City, a biannual report on African American progress in five key areas - civic engagement, economics, education, health, and social justice - she has provided invaluable insights and data that have shaped policy and decision-making.
Grant's commitment to racial equity is evident in her receipt of the Whitney M. Young Leadership Award, an honour she received in recognition of her efforts to advance racial equity. She continues to champion this cause through her role as the president of the Kansas City Public Schools Buildings Corporation Board and by convening the Urban League's Police Accountability Task Force, a coalition of civil rights, community-based, faith-based, and civic organisations.
The public will have the opportunity to witness Grant's inspiring speech at a Black History Month program hosted by Park University on Feb. 7, 2024. The event, which starts at 1 p.m., will be held at the Jenkin and Barbara David Theater inside Alumni Hall on Park University's flagship Parkville Campus.
