In September 2025, an ecumenical dialogue event will take place, marking the jubilee of the Council of Nicaea. This event is organized by the Department "Faith in Dialogue" of the Archbishop's General Vicariate Paderborn, in cooperation with the Bildungshaus Liborianum and the Johann-Adam-Möhler-Institut für Ökumene Paderborn.

The Council of Nicaea, which took place in 325, was a gathering of bishops invited by Emperor Constantine to discuss the fundamentals of the young Christian faith. The Nicene Creed, which was finalized at the Council of Constantinople in 381, was laid down by this historic event. Today, the Nicene Creed is still recited by all Christians worldwide.

The target group for this event is all those interested in engaging with the creed. The sessions will focus on the beliefs in God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the Church, as well as the concept of one baptism. Each session will be led by renowned theological experts, offering insights into the context, significance, and relevance of the Council of Nicaea.

The ecumenical dialogue event will take place on September 1, 2025, September 15, 2025, September 22, 2025, and September 29, 2025. Participation in individual sessions is possible, and registration can be done through the Liborianum website.

On June 19, 2024, an online event will be held to preview the upcoming sessions. Speakers at this event include Prof. Dr. Markus Vinzent (University of Durham), Dr. Annette Grabowsky (Johann-Adam-Möhler-Institut für Ökumene Paderborn), and Prof. Dr. Thomas Söding (University of Bochum), each presenting on various aspects of the Council of Nicaea.

Dr. Cordula Heupts will moderate the event, ensuring a stimulating and engaging discussion. For more information, visit the Liborianum website or contact them via email at [email protected] or phone at +49 5251 299 240.

This theological online salon promises to be an enlightening experience for all those seeking to deepen their understanding of the Nicene Creed and the Council of Nicaea's enduring impact on Christianity.
