Nigeria Launches MICS7 Survey: 'Data for Progress' to Inform SDG Policies
The Federal Government has initiated the seventh round of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS7), titled 'Data for Progress Learning'. Unveiled in Abuja by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) alongside UNICEF and other partners, the survey aims to provide comprehensive insights into the welfare and living conditions of Nigerian households, with a focus on children, women, and adolescents. It will cover no fewer than 37,000 households across the country's 36 states, including both urban and rural areas.
The MICS7, set to commence data collection in December and conclude in March 2026, will disaggregate data down to the local government level. This will offer detailed insights into the unique needs of different communities, enabling targeted policy decisions and development programmes. The survey will gather data on various indicators, including education, health, nutrition, and child protection. Notably, it will also include anthropometric measurements for children under the age of five to assess their nutritional status. The final results are expected to be released in August 2026.
The data collected will play a crucial role in assessing Nigeria's progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and informing policy decisions at both federal and state levels. The survey is a significant step towards evidence-based policymaking and improving the lives of Nigerian citizens.
The MICS7, with its comprehensive scope and detailed data collection methods, promises to provide a wealth of information that can drive progress and development in Nigeria. By understanding the needs and challenges faced by different communities, policymakers can make informed decisions that truly benefit the people. The results, to be released in August 2026, are eagerly anticipated as they will provide a snapshot of Nigeria's progress towards the SDGs and guide future policy and development efforts.
