New leader assumes duties at Export Promotion Agency

In the realm of Bangladesh's economic growth, few individuals have played as significant a role as Mohammad Hasan Arif. With a diverse and impressive background, Arif has left an indelible mark on the nation's export trade and investment landscape.

Born and raised in Bangladesh, Arif earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees in pharmacy from the prestigious University of Dhaka. His academic pursuits didn't end there; he later obtained a master's degree in economics from Yamaguchi University in Japan.

Arif's career in public service began in earnest when he joined the 18th BCS administration cadre in 1999. His journey led him to hold posts in multiple ministries and government agencies, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the nation.

Arif's expertise in trade and economics was further honed through specialized training in the United States, Japan, Australia, China, Thailand, and India. This global exposure equipped him with invaluable insights into international trade and investment practices.

Arif's contributions to Bangladesh's economic development are numerous. He has been instrumental in expanding the nation's export trade and attracting investment. His leadership extended to various wings of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), including the Middle East, the Americas, and the Japan wing.

Prior to joining the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Arif served as the head of administration at the ERD. His tenure at the EPB began on 15 September 2025, when he was appointed vice-chairman (chief executive).

Arif's influence extends beyond his official roles. He has been a member of several esteemed organisations, including the Institute of Public Finance Bangladesh, the SME Foundation, and the IsDB-BISEW. He also served as an alternate governor of Bangladesh to the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).

Arif has represented the government on visits to numerous nations, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Austria, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Algeria, Papua New Guinea, Palau, and others. These visits provided him with direct insights into trade, investment, and economic affairs.

Notably, Arif is a Certified Public-Private Partnership Professional (CP3P), a testament to his expertise in this critical area of economic development. He currently serves as the president of the JDS Alumni Association, further demonstrating his commitment to his alma mater and his country.

In all, Mohammad Hasan Arif's career is a testament to his dedication to Bangladesh's economic growth and his ability to navigate the complexities of international trade and investment. His contributions continue to shape the nation's economic future.
