New Decree Simplifies School Streets, Kirchheim unter Teck Leads the Way
A new decree, 'Hints on the traffic and street law implementation of school zones and school streets', published on August 28, 2025, has simplified municipal planning for school zones and school streets. Kirchheim unter Teck has become one of the first municipalities to put this into practice, creating a school street that combines play, fun, and safety. The Ministry of Transport enabled this in August, and the concept is supported by the state program MOVERS - Active to School.
The project in Kirchheim unter Teck allows students to present their results and ask questions during a tour. Each station takes up approximately the area of a parked car, promoting active engagement. Minister of Culture Theresa Schopper explains that school streets create more space for movement, play, and encounter, benefiting the entire school community. Deputy Minister President and Minister of Interior Thomas Strobl and Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann visited the demonstration to show their support. The Freihof Schools in Kirchheim unter Teck are working on a concept for a school street, aiming to reduce traffic chaos and create a relaxed arrival and a quieter start to the school day.
