Medical school of a university welcomes 146 new professionals to the workforce
146 Graduates Celebrate Success at University Medicine Halle's Training Center
On August 31, 2022, the University Medicine Halle (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg) celebrated the graduation of 146 students from its Training Center for Health Professions. The ceremony marked the culmination of years of hard work and dedication in the fields of care, therapy, and assistant professions.
Among the graduates were 11 nursing assistants, 24 operating room assistants (ORA) and anaesthesia assistants (AAA), 13 midwives/obstetricians, and 47 health and children's nurses. Five graduates received the "With Distinction" award for outstanding performance.
Anne-Kathrin Scheibe, head of the department for therapy and assistant professions, expressed her gratitude for the commitment of the trainees, teachers, and staff. She praised the graduates for their resilience in facing the challenges posed by the pandemic and completing their training under often difficult circumstances, in part through online or hybrid formats.
Christiane Becker, director of nursing at the University Clinic, also commended the graduates for their dedication. She noted that the 2022 class came from various professions within healthcare, including the last health and children's nurses trained under the old nursing law.
For the 2022 class, the training programs offered in the fields of care, therapy, and assistant professions included BSc Nursing and Midwifery programs, MSc in Health and Nursing Sciences, and Medical Education Track. These programs emphasise practical clinical exposure, communication, and empathy skills with a strong integration of experiential learning in real healthcare settings.
In addition, 14 physiotherapists, 17 speech therapists, 8 medical radiation technology assistants (MRTA) will begin their training in 2022. Two more classes for OTA and nursing assistants, and one class for ATA with approximately 20 students will start as well.
The University Medicine Halle trains healthcare professionals for its own needs and partner institutions such as the BG Clinic Bergmannstrost Halle, with excellent chances of being hired after completing the training in the field of care. Most training programs start on time, on September 1st, with the possibility to start training on March 1st, 2022, for some healthcare professionals.

One of the graduates, Selina Frei, started a position at the University Medicine Halle on September 1, 2022, and expressed her satisfaction with her training experience. The following training year will be trained as healthcare professionals according to the new nursing profession act, which introduces a generalist training based on the Care Profession Act, preparing for the care of sick people throughout their entire lifespan.
