Marine Veteran Nigel Edge Charged in Deadly NC Bar Shooting

A Marine veteran, Nigel Edge, is accused of a deadly shooting at a waterfront bar in Southport, North Carolina. The incident occurred just hours before another Marine veteran allegedly opened fire at a church in Michigan. Edge has been arrested and charged, with prosecutors considering the death penalty.

Edge, who served nearly six years in the Marines and was awarded the Purple Heart, allegedly opened fire from a boat on the bar, killing three and injuring eight. He was detained by the Coast Guard about a half-hour after the shooting and later arrested. Edge is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of attempted murder, among other charges. His motive remains under investigation.

North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein praised local law enforcement and the Coast Guard for apprehending Edge quickly. He called for more action to prevent such acts of violence and improve mental health care.
