Maggie Siff, a graduating class of '92 alumna, will deliver the keynote speech at Bronx Science's 96th graduation ceremony.
Maggie Siff, a renowned actress known for her roles in Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, and Billions, is set to return to her alma mater, the Bronx High School of Science, as this year's keynote speaker at the graduation ceremony.
Born and raised in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, Siff began her educational journey commuting forty minutes to school each day by public bus. After excelling in the Speech & Debate team at Bronx Science, she skipped her high school graduation to participate in a national tournament, a decision that caught the attention of the drama coach at Regis High School, an all-boys Catholic school in Manhattan.
Siff's academic path led her to Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she majored in English in 1996. Following her undergraduate studies, she pursued an acting career, earning a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in acting from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 2004.
Siff's career has spanned a diverse range of form and style, from small theater productions to major television shows. Her breakthrough TV role arrived in the mid-2000s, leading to a successful and diverse career in television and film, marked by steady work in critically acclaimed series and roles spanning drama and crime genres.
Siff's performance in Orpheus Descending by Tennessee Williams, a rarely produced play, earned her the Barrymore Award for Excellence in Theater and nominations for Satellite Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Gold Derby Awards. She has also appeared in episodes of popular shows like Grey's Anatomy and Law and Order, among several other series.
In addition to her television work, Siff is best known for playing the lead roles in Billions, Mad Men, and Sons of Anarchy. She appreciates the stability of long-form television roles, especially as a mother of a ten-year-old daughter.
The graduation ceremony will take place at the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights, known for its enormous size and beautiful ornamental architecture. Siff's speech is expected to emphasize the importance of exploring a variety of interests beyond a single focus on achievement.
