The Punjab government's Hunar Sikhya Schools (HSS) pilot project, launched to equip Class 11 students with industry-relevant skills, has seen an impressive response, particularly in trades related to finance and digital marketing.

Four government schools in the district have been chosen for the HSS project: Government Senior Secondary Schools at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dhandari Khurd, Hambran, and the Girls' School in Sahnewal. Each of these schools is offering two specialized trades under the HSS project.

At the PAU school, the trades offered are Digital Design and Development (DDD) and Banking, Finance Services and Insurance (BFSI). The demand for DDD at the PAU school has exceeded expectations, necessitating an increase in capacity. Instructor Jatin Arora is associated with the DDD trade at the PAU school.

Nearby, at the girls' school in Sahnewal, students can choose between BFSI and Healthcare Sciences. Interestingly, nearly all 25 seats in each trade at the girls' school have been filled.

GSSS Dhandari Khurd offers DDD and Beauty and Wellness trades. Of the 25 seats available in Beauty and Wellness at GSSS Dhandari Khurd, 18 have already been filled.

At GSSS Hambran, BFSI is more popular than Healthcare Sciences. The banking course at GSSS Hambran trains students for six different job roles, including tally operator, account assistant, mutual fund agent, LIC agent among others.

Principal Pardeep Sharma, associated with the Government Senior Secondary School at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), expressed hope that permanent teaching staff will be appointed soon to strengthen the initiative further. The HSS project guidelines require two dedicated teachers per school, but the posts are yet to be filled by the department.

Vocational instructors and deputed teachers are keeping the trades functional at the schools until permanent teaching staff is appointed.

The Hunar Sikhya Schools pilot project typically focuses on providing vocational training and skill development to students in various trades such as IT, automotive, electrical, tailoring, and hospitality to enhance employability. These pilot projects aim to integrate formal education with skill training to create a skilled workforce aligned with industry needs.

For exact current details—such as the specific trades offered, enrollment or response rates, and the current staffing situation in the Punjab pilot—it would be necessary to consult official Punjab government skill development or education department releases or look for recent news updates directly addressing the Hunar Sikhya project.
