Local summer music and theater programs in Annapolis received a total of $6,000 in grants from the Annapolis Musicians Fund.
In a move to support the artistic growth of young people in the greater Annapolis area, the Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians (AMFM) has announced the recipients of the David Glaser Education Grant. This year, the grant, totalling $6,000, will be divided between two local programs: the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Summer Program and the Compass Rose Theater Youth Theater Education program.
The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Summer Program aims to offer musical education to students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. The program includes weekly private lessons, ensemble rehearsals, guest artist workshops, and access to concerts and performances by the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra.
On the other hand, the Compass Rose Theater Youth Theater Education program provides theater arts education for children and teens, including summer camps, seasonal classes, and full-scale youth productions. The initiative has a particular focus on reaching students from underserved communities.
AMFM’s president, PJ Thomas, stated that the grant honours the legacy of David Glaser, aiming to create opportunities for the next generation of musicians. David Glaser, a well-known Annapolis musician, was a key figure in establishing the AMFM and its mission to reach underserved communities.
In addition to the David Glaser Education Grant, AMFM also supports youth through the Tim King Scholarship Fund. This fund awards scholarships to high school seniors pursuing college degrees in music performance and provides subsidies for music lessons through local organizations.
AMFM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial relief to professional Annapolis musicians facing hardship. The organization raises funds through community donations and live music events featuring local talent.
By supporting these programs, AMFM hopes to enhance access to music and theater education for underserved youth in the Annapolis area, preserving David Glaser’s legacy by fostering new musical talent.
