Launch of the online lecture series titled 'Effective Consumer Protection' has been announced
Get ready for an insightful journey into the world of consumer protection as the "Consumer Protection in Action" webinar series, organised by the Consumer Advice Centre North Rhine-Westphalia (Verbraucherzentrale NRW) and partner institutions, kicks off on August 19, 2025.
This engaging online series aims to deepen the dialogue between research, politics, and practice, and outline perspectives for effective consumer protection in the future. The focus will be on central consumer topics such as health and consumption, digital markets, and financial services.
One of the key findings to be discussed is a shift in digital expertise between generations, with children and youth becoming the digital experts in their families. The series will delve into the potential of structured parent-child consultation, which supports families in the digital role shift and makes children early competent and safety-conscious users.
The series will also address factors influencing purchasing decisions and overcoming political hurdles related to health and consumption. Consumers' protection from cost traps and lack of transparency in digital markets will be a significant topic of discussion.
Other topics covered will include consumers' rights and how to defend them, handling complaints with businesses, protecting against fraud and scams, digital consumer protection, including data privacy, guidance on product guarantees and return policies, and updates on new consumer protection laws.
The design of fair, transparent, and inclusive financial markets will also be a focus, as will the need for early support for children to learn where they can get help if needed.
All webinars take place virtually and are freely accessible. For exact topics, dates, times, and registration process, we recommend visiting the official Consumer Advice Centre North Rhine-Westphalia website directly or contacting them by phone or email.
