Invitation to Submit Writings: NLUO Publication Focusing on Children's Rights
Call for Submissions: NLUO Journal on the Rights of the Child
The Centre for Child Rights at National Law University Odisha (NLUO) invites submissions for their bi-annual journal on child rights. The journal, titled the "Journal on the Rights of the Child of NLUO," is committed to mainstreaming pro-child rights discourse and reclaiming journalism as a public good.
Submissions can be in the form of original research papers, case commentaries, case notes, articles, pop culture reviews, fact sheets, infographics, photo-essays, and more. The journal is ISSN indexed and undergoes a double-blind peer review process, ensuring the highest standards of academic rigor.
The journal welcomes submissions on contemporary issues around child rights, the juvenile justice system, legislative developments related to child rights, the evolving socio-legal landscape of child well-being, the pop-culture discourse on children and their protection and rights, and improving and shaping media coverage of children.
Examples of potential topics for submissions include the emerging trends of teenagers being charged with Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) even in consensual romantic relationships and how this squares up with the Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ARSH) focus of the State, and the latest SC judgment on Prevention of Child Marriage Act and how to not abuse that for undue criminalisation.
Submissions should be original and not previously submitted, accepted, or published elsewhere. They should be sent via email to [email protected] with the subject line “Submission for CCR - NLUO Journal.” The deadline for submissions for the October 2025 edition is August 24, 2025.
The Editor-in-Chief of the journal is Prof Ved Kumari, Vice-Chancellor of NLUO. The Editor of the journal is Prof Biraj Swain, Chief Minister's Chair Professor cum Director, Centre for Child Rights - NLUO. Co-authorship is allowed, and the corresponding author and their contact coordinates need to be clearly mentioned.
Submissions should be made in .doc/.docx formats and include an abstract of the submission (150-300 words) with minimum five key words. The content should be written in Times New Roman Font with a size of 12 and line spacing should be 1.
Authors may be requested to make revisions, and final editorial changes are at the discretion of the editorial board. Submissions not considered in the October 2025 issue will be considered in the upcoming issue. The journal does not tolerate plagiarism and extensive use of AI for writing, and such submissions will be summarily rejected.
Once accepted, the work cannot be published elsewhere in any form. The editorial team typically reviews submissions within five weeks. The next issue is slated for publication in October 2025. Rolling submissions are accepted for future issues.
Engaging with education and self-development, the journal welcomes articles exploring contemporary issues around child rights, such as emerging trends related to the Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ARSH) focus of the State, and the impact of recent Supreme Court judgments on child protection laws. Authors are encouraged to submit original research papers, case commentaries, and more to the NLUO Journal on the Rights of the Child, with topics covering aspects like the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Prevention of Child Marriage Act.
