The International Conference on July Uprising 2024, taking place tomorrow at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the University of Dhaka, aims to reflect on the significance and legacy of the July Revolution 2024 in Bangladesh. Jointly organised by Research and Integrated Thought (RIT), a Dhaka-based think tank, and the Department of Political Science at the University of Dhaka, the conference is themed "The Legacy of July Revolution 2024: Rebuilding Bangladesh" [1][3].

The conference will convene scholars, policymakers, civil society representatives, and activists both domestically and internationally to discuss the uprising as a pivotal national awakening demanding dignity, democracy, and change. Key speakers at the conference include Adilur Rahman Khan, Housing and Public Works Adviser, who will inaugurate the conference as chief guest, Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, editor of Amar Desh, Parents of Martyred Jahiduzzaman Tanvin, a prominent figure in the uprising, Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, John Danilowicz, former US diplomat, and Nurul Izzah Anwar, Deputy President of Malaysian Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) [2].

Over 400 research papers have been submitted for the conference from around the world, and after a rigorous peer-review process, 60 papers have been selected for oral presentation, and another 60 for poster sessions [1]. The conference will feature over 15 expert speakers, including Amr Abdalla, Mahmudur Rahman, Nurul Izzah Anwar, Md Saidul Islam, Jon Danilowicz, Syeda Sultana Razia, Sharif Banna, and Usama Al-Azami [2].

The conference will have more than 10 live panel sessions covering themes such as democratic transitions, civil resistance, justice reform, and post-revolution nation-building. The event will conclude with a theatrical performance titled "Red July" at the TSC Auditorium, which aims to blend artistic expression with political memory and reflection [1].

Co-organisers include the Department of Political Science at Jagannath University, the University of Regina (Canada), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Kent State University (USA), the International Institute of Law and Diplomacy, the Bangladesh 2.0 Initiative (UK), Sochchar (USA), Insaf (Dhaka), the Center for Policy and Social Research (Turkey), the Center for Policy Analysis and Advocacy (Dhaka), and the Jagoron Foundation (UK) [1]. A number of community-based and non-partisan organisations are also lending their support [1].

The conference reinforces calls for justice and systemic reforms to rebuild Bangladesh's democratic and socio-economic framework [1][3]. It highlights the need to preserve the uprising’s spirit, ensure accountability for the violence during the uprising, and address ongoing challenges in governance and justice [1][3].
