Improving Hybrid Learning at Duke Kunshan University: The Role of Sennheiser's TeamConnect Ceiling 2
Duke Kunshan University, a world-class educational institution located in Kunshan, China, has recently enhanced its hybrid learning experience with the implementation of Sennheiser's TeamConnect Ceiling 2 (TCC 2) audio system. This project, known as the Duke Kunshan University project, took three years from design to complete implementation.
The TCC 2 audio system is a crucial component in the university's phase two deployment, allowing the IT manager to monitor and control a variety of devices across the campus in real-time, through mobile tablets or desktop devices. The system is seamlessly integrated into the campus network, together with audio equipment from various brands, through the use of Dante technology.
Sennheiser's TCC 2 is a ceiling array microphone with dynamic beamforming technology. It creates an ultra-narrow and accurate audio capture beam, detecting the speaker's location in the room and transmitting that data to integrated video systems. This technology ensures clear, focused audio from each active speaker and enables automatic camera control, capturing the speaker naturally and distinctly.
The TCC 2 system is installed across 22 buildings, including 29 classrooms, 20 conference rooms, and a visitor's center. Three units were installed in the visitor's center to elevate in-room audio capabilities with TruVoicelift functionality. The TCC 2 was selected for the project due to its state-of-the-art audio technology, brand-agnostic integration, and proven track record.
Sennheiser engineers made numerous visits to the site at Duke Kunshan University, meticulously working and adjusting room by room to ensure optimal placement and angling of every TCC 2 for the best speech intelligibility. The Sennheiser team also provided comprehensive technical and training support to Duke Kunshan University, contributing greatly to the progress and success of the project.
Wan, who oversaw the audio system design at Duke Kunshan University, developed a fully digital and distributed AV-over-IP architecture for the campus.
