Hospitals Wards Augmented with 5,000 Books through Collaboration between EHS and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library

In a significant move towards enhancing mental health services and promoting a culture of reading, Emirates Health Services (EHS) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library have partnered to launch the "A World Reads" initiative.

The initiative, aimed at building a knowledge-driven society, was launched at an official event held at Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital. Key figures including Dr. Noor Almheiri, Director of the Mental Health Department at EHS, Dr. Ammar Albanna, Director of Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital, and Ali Juma Al Tamimi, Director of the Libraries Department at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, attended the event.

The partnership will see over 5,000 Arabic and English books distributed across hospital libraries, with the aim of fostering a therapeutic environment enriched with intellectual engagement. This move is expected to support mental health through reading and literacy, providing therapeutic benefits and cognitive engagement in patient healing and rehabilitation.

Dr. Noor Almheiri emphasized that integrating books into hospitals supports mental well-being by providing patients with intellectual stimulation, a connection to the world, and opportunities for personal development. She added that the initiative aligns with EHS's vision to establish libraries in hospital wards, and with National Reading Month "UAE Reads 2025".

The "A World Reads" initiative is contributing to lifelong learning and national development by expanding access to diverse knowledge resources. It also aligns with the UAE Centennial 2071 Vision, which aims to create a knowledge-based society.

EHS has been actively enhancing mental health services and community awareness, consistent with national policies. The UAE also has a National Policy for the Promotion of Mental Health that emphasizes raising mental health awareness, multi-sectoral collaboration, and comprehensive care. The "A World Reads" initiative is a natural extension of these efforts, promoting a reading culture and broadening access to knowledge for all societal segments, including patients in EHS facilities.

Ali Juma Al Tamimi, Director of the Libraries Department at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, reaffirmed the library's dedication to promoting a culture of reading, with a focus on youth. He expressed his belief that the initiative will play a crucial role in fostering intellectual curiosity and emotional support among patients, staff, and visitors in hospitals.

In summary, the partnership between Emirates Health Services and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library's "A World Reads" initiative is set to revolutionize mental health services and reading culture in UAE hospitals. The initiative's potential to support mental health, promote a culture of reading, and complement mental health awareness goals makes it a significant step towards creating a knowledge-based society in line with the UAE's broader literacy and cultural goals.
