Hospital Authority in Hong Kong refuses assertion that citizens face difficulties in obtaining residential status.

In a recent development, a discrepancy has surfaced between the official statements of Hong Kong's Hospital Authority and claims made by a social media user regarding the availability of residency positions for local medical graduates.

The Hospital Authority, known for its long-standing commitment to nurturing healthcare professionals, has categorically rejected allegations that a shortage of residency positions is due to government budget deficits or labor policies. The Authority asserts that it provides "sufficient training places" for all local medical students to complete internships each year and employs all eligible local graduates for specialist training in public hospitals.

However, a social media post by a user named vibrant_wasabi has raised concerns. The post claimed that a friend, an intern, was recently rejected from a resident trainee position. The user suggested that the Hospital Authority may not have enough funds to hire all graduates, citing a shortage of resident trainee vacancies with only 510 positions for 530 graduates this year.

The Hospital Authority, in response, has reiterated its dedication to nurturing local healthcare professionals, irrespective of its financial situation or the recruitment of non-locally trained healthcare professionals. The Authority has not provided specific reasons for the rejection of any individual applications.

This discrepancy between official sources and individual reports has sparked a conversation about the uncertainty faced by aspiring medical professionals in securing residency positions. Potential medical students are advised to carefully consider this aspect when making their career choices.

The Hospital Authority encourages all medical graduates to apply for residency positions and assures them that they will do their best to accommodate everyone. The Authority urges the public to verify information from reliable sources before sharing it on social media platforms.
