High-End Shooting Brake, BMW's Speedtop, Set for Production at Half a Million Dollars

BMW Unveils Exclusive Concept Speedtop, an Elaborate Shooting Brake Model

A year after introducing the stunning Skytop convertible, BMW has once again stunned the automotive world with the Concept Speedtop. This new model, essentially a shooting brake version of its predecessor, is not just another concept car destined to remain in the realm of "what if." BMW is moving to bring select show cars into production, targeting ultra-wealthy collectors.

The Concept Speedtop shares DNA with the Skytop, featuring its iconic shark-nose front end with razor-thin headlights and an illuminated kidney grille. However, the Speedtop deviates dramatically from the Skytop as a targa-style convertible. Instead, it boasts a roofline that extends all the way to the rear, transforming it into a practical yet elegant shooting brake.

One of Speedtop's most striking features is its gradient paint scheme, which transitions from "Floating Sunstone Maroon" at the front to "Floating Sundown Silver" at the rear. This innovative color shift gives the car an almost chameleon-like effect, emphasizing its flowing lines. Custom 14-spoke wheels, designed specifically for this car, and hidden chrome door handles add further aesthetic delight.

Inside the Speedtop, manufactory-level craftsmanship is evident. The two-tone interior features Sundown Maroon leather on the dashboard and upper surfaces, paired with Moonstone White on the seats and lower door panels. The collaboration with Italian leather specialist Schedoni increases the luxury factor with custom-made bags and a leather-lined trunk that illuminate with LED strips.

While BMW has been tight-lipped about the powertrain, they have confirmed the Speedtop houses their most powerful V8 engine, likely the same 617-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 found in models like the XM. With an estimate of only 70 units being produced, the Concept Speedtop represents the pinnacle of BMW's bespoke manufacturing capabilities.

The small yet impactful series represents BMW's commitment to pushing boundaries via limited-production vehicles. Produced at BMW's Dingolfing plant, the Speedtop is anticipated to sell for over $500,000. Orders are reportedly open for qualified buyers, though the vehicle will not be available in the United States.
