Stand Up Against Bullying at Schools: Greens Demand Change

Primary School Harassment: Greens Call for Accountability - Harassment in primary education?

School bullying is a critical issue, and the Greens in Berlin's state parliament are taking a stand. The recent bullying allegations at the Carl-Bolle-Primary School in Berlin-Moabit have sparked calls for action, with the education spokesman of the Greens, Louis Krüger, slamming the school's internal complaint structures as inadequate.

The teacher at the center of this storm, Oziel Inácio-Stech, has been allegedly tormented, insulted, and harassed for months due to his sexual orientation. Not just by students, but also a colleague, with the school management, school supervision, and the education administration seemingly standing idly by. Despite repeated pleas for help, the teacher has been on sick leave for about three months. This shocking case has stirred nationwide outcry.

Krüger bluntly stated, "A gay teacher was bullied and threatened in Berlin for months - and left alone by the school management, school supervision, and the education administration." With the education senator due to answer questions in the education committee on Thursday, Krüger demands accountability, stating, "Those who are responsible may not hide." He continues, "Queer teachers need protection, not silence."

Furthermore, the Greens are advocating for expanding programs against discrimination in the education sector in the upcoming budget. Krüger argues, "The result of this short-sighted austerity policy is now visible to all."

The "Süddeutsche Zeitung" reports that there are additional problems plaguing the school, with numerous teachers who have experienced disrespectful and discriminatory behavior from students without any consequences. The school management and education administration have yet to respond to inquiries regarding this matter.

"The Greens, in Berlin's state parliament, are advocating for a community policy focused on education-and-self-development to combat bullying in schools, especially after the bullying allegations at the Carl-Bolle-Primary School in Berlin-Moabit. This policy includes expanding vocational training programs to address discrimination within the education sector, as a result of the current austerity policy."

"Furthermore, the Greens are calling for politicians to address the general news regarding the bullying of a teacher due to his sexual orientation, emphasizing the need for accountability and protection for queer teachers from discrimination, rather than silence."
