Guide for Developing Construction Experts
In the coming years, the construction sector in Kazakhstan is projected to require approximately 210,000 skilled workers by 2025, accounting for about 7% of the total workforce demand, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. This figure aligns with the sector's significant role in the country's economy, although public services and business services are expected to dominate with 29% and 21%, respectively [1].
Construction vacancies are also reflected in the job postings on Enbek.kz, the Electronic Exchange, with approximately 7% of all vacancies related to the construction industry. This suggests that construction vacancies could account for a significant portion of the total job postings on the platform [1].
The construction sector is not the only field with a high demand for skilled labor. As many as 350,000 vacancies are projected to be related to skilled labor across various sectors. To address this demand, educational institutions in Kazakhstan are adopting an interdisciplinary approach in training personnel [1].
For instance, the Kokshetau University named after Sh. Ualihanov offers "BIM (Building Information Modeling) Design of Buildings and Structures". Meanwhile, the Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University provides "Architecture and Urban Planning" [1].
A total of 34 universities across the country are currently training personnel in the "Architecture and Construction" field, with a student body of 19,042. These educational institutions have developed 299 educational programs in this direction, including 15 innovative ones [1].
In response to academic autonomy, educational institutions are reviewing their teaching methods to better meet the needs of the labor market. They are also strengthening cooperation with employers to ensure successful employment for graduates [1].
The International Educational Corporation has launched programs like "Information Technologies in Construction" and "Economics and Management in Construction" to further equip students with the necessary skills [1].
By 2025, it is anticipated that over 1.09 to 1.25 million vacancies will be published on Enbek.kz. The Center for Labor Resources Development has predicted that construction will account for a significant portion of these vacancies on the Electronic Exchange [1].
With over a million people currently employed in the construction sector, it is clear that this industry will continue to play a crucial role in Kazakhstan's economy. The technical and professional education system in Kazakhstan is already aligned with these economic needs, and regional colleges are adapting their educational programs to meet current labor market demands.
