Fire Department Training: Youth Volunteers Equipped with Realistic Operational Scenarios

Annual Youth Fire Department Camp in Arnsberg Concludes Successfully

The annual Youth Fire Department camp in Arnsberg, including the areas of Breitenbruch and Wennigloh, concluded successfully last weekend. The camp, designed to engage young people interested in firefighting and emergency services, took place from the holiday of Ascension until the following Saturday.

The 27 participants, aged between 10 to 18 years, hailed from the local fire departments of Arnsberg, Breitenbruch, and Wennigloh. The group started with a hike from Wennigloh to the fire station Arnsberg on the Ruhrstraße.

Throughout the camp, the participants were introduced to various aspects of firefighting and emergency response. They received training in practical exercises and communal activities, which included firefighting drills, first aid training, obstacle courses, team-building exercises, theoretical lessons, camping activities, and competitions.

One of the highlights was a large-scale person search in the dark on the Rüdenburg. The group also visited a farm owned by the company Hilgenhaus to learn about fighting vegetation fires. A deployment exercise took place in the area of Hüsten, with exercise scenarios including leaking chemicals, smoke development, and a triggered fire alarm system.

First aid measures were required for an unconscious person during the person search exercise. The camp combined exercise and training with fun and community, fostering teamwork, discipline, physical fitness, social skills, and community spirit among the participants.

The fire department leadership praised the great commitment and excellent performances of the youth. Kai Spiegel and Sascha Ricke from the leadership emphasized their pride in the youth work. The group also visited a composting facility to gain insights into waste management and recycling.

Well-trained and motivated deployment forces regularly emerge from the youth fire department work, securing the future of the fire department. The camp ended on a high note, with the youth and their trainers looking back with pride on what has been achieved.
