The 60th edition of the Jugend Forscht competition's federal final has commenced at the Helmut-Schmidt-University of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg. A total of 167 gifted young minds in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology are exhibiting 112 research projects, according to the association and the university. These finalists secured victory at one of the 16 state competitions preceding this event.

The first two days of the competition will see the young researchers and jury members working in seclusion. However, interested parties can gain insights into the research projects on Saturday.

An award ceremony in seven categories will take place on Sunday at Lufthansa Technik, with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in attendance as the patron of Jugend Forscht.

Among the projects up for presentation are a solar-powered E-bike, a retrofittable wheelchair drive, software aimed at enhanced breast cancer detection, and a method for diesel fuel production utilizing the Kolbe electrolysis. A MINT campus showcasing the latest technologies from the areas of land, sea, air, and cyberspace will be inaugurated at the Bundeswehr University on Friday.

The Helmut-Schmidt-University of the German Armed Forces has taken on the patronage for the anniversary competition, with the motto "Turn questions into answers." This year, 10,350 young participants submitted 5,664 projects.
