Explore the past flooding incidents in Saxony-Anhalt / Environment Minister Willingmann initiates a school-level flood marker contest
The Minister of the Environment, Prof. Dr. Armin Willingmann, has launched an exciting competition for students in Saxony-Anhalt called "Water has Power. You Too!". This competition aims to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of extreme floods and the importance of flood protection in the state.
The competition is open to students in grade 7 and above from all secondary schools in Saxony-Anhalt. It encourages students to creatively document individual high-water marks and their corresponding flood events in the state, with submissions due by February 15, 2026.
Submissions can be in the form of photos, videos, reels, stories, or collages, uploaded via a cloud. The competition allows for creative expressions, giving students a chance to showcase their talents while contributing to a valuable cause.
The three best school teams will be awarded a total of 1,800 euros in prize money. The jury's chosen winning entry will also be included in the current book project about "High-water marks in Saxony-Anhalt".
To participate, students are encouraged to interview eyewitnesses or analyze historical records in their classes, courses, or working groups. The competition is centred around the historical high-water marks found on buildings like bridges, churches, or houses in Saxony-Anhalt.
