Estonia Scraps School Exam Retakes to Ease Anxiety
Estonia's Ministry of Education and Research is set to introduce significant changes to school exams. The aim is to reduce anxiety among students while maintaining fairness in admissions to higher education institutions.
From next spring, graduates will no longer have the option to retake school exams. This decision, made by the Ministry of Education and Research, follows similar cancellations for certain tests due to fairness concerns. Despite not reaching the 50% threshold, graduates will still receive a graduation certificate. However, educational institutions are encouraged but not required to check the results of graduates with low scores.
The retake option will remain available for those who miss the exam due to valid reasons. The Ministry views school exams as a tool for university admission, not as a requirement for leaving school.
Starting next spring, Estonia's school leavers will no longer have the option to retake exams. The Ministry of Education and Research aims to reduce student anxiety and ensure fairness in higher education admissions.
