Essen Launches 'Ehrenamtsstipendium' Scholarship for Young Volunteers in 2026

The City of Essen is set to launch the 'Ehrenamtsstipendium für junge Engagierte' scholarship programme in 2026. This initiative aims to support young, active individuals involved in local associations. Applications will open on May 1, 2025, and close on October 31, 2025.

The scholarships, worth 150 euros per month for a year, will be awarded by lottery following the application period. Applicants must be between 18 and 27 years old in 2026 and actively involved in an Essen-based association, with no other funding received. Successful applicants will enjoy networking opportunities and regular contact with the civic participation and volunteering department. This programme is a continuation of the 'Ehrenamtsstipendium für junge Engagierte' first awarded by the City of Essen in 2025.

The city portal will offer 15 scholarships in 2026, providing financial support and recognition to young, committed individuals dedicated to serving their community in Essen.
