Enhanced water safety: St. Ingbert boosts swimming instruction programs
St. Ingbert, Germany - The city council of St. Ingbert has passed a joint application from the CDU, Free Voters, Greens, Family Party, and FDP to promote swimming education and lifeguard training in the city.
The resolution aims to send a clear signal for more prevention, volunteering, and support for young families. To achieve this, the city has planned a gradual increase in general club funding for swimming clubs in St. Ingbert. From the current 25 percent, the funding is planned to increase to 40 percent by 2028.
The measures to promote swimming education and lifeguard training will be financed by reallocating funds from the lease agreement with the Baths Ownership Company Ltd. The maximum additional annual expenditure for these measures is up to 8,225 euros.
The city will provide a special subsidy for the acquisition or retention of the lifeguard badge (silver or gold), with an annual allocation of 1,000 euros. Additionally, a special subsidy of 4,000 euros will be provided annually for the "Seahorse" and "Bronze" swimming badges, starting from 2025.
The payment to clubs for swimming badges will be performance-based. Successful graduates of swimming badges will be invited to the municipal sports awards ceremony.
The resolution also provides for an evaluation of swimming education and lifeguard training in St. Ingbert, scheduled for 2030. However, the city does not repeat its plan for an evaluation in 2030.
The city does not repeat its plan to provide a special subsidy for swimming badges and lifeguard badges. However, it is worth noting that the clubs responsible for swimming lessons in St. Ingbert, while not explicitly named, may include the Schwimmverein 08 e.V. Saarbrücken (SV 08), which participates actively in swimming events in St. Ingbert, and DJK Dudweiler, which has a swimming division that seeks trainers.
A standardized form with parental consent for contact is required for accounting purposes. The goal of these measures is to enable more children to swim safely and increase safety in baths and waterways through the training of lifeguards. The resolution also aims to improve the swimming ability of children and young people and to strengthen the training of lifeguards in St. Ingbert.
