EIT Approves Record €978M for 2026-2028 to Boost European Innovation
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) has approved a record-breaking €978 million for 2026-2028, its largest funding package to date. This will strengthen innovation, entrepreneurship, and skills development across Europe, supporting six Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) and joint initiatives.
The funding will be distributed among the KICs based on their performance and alignment with EU priorities. EIT Health will receive €67.3 million, EIT Raw Materials €74.8 million, EIT Food €125.3 million, EIT Urban Mobility €206.9 million, EIT Manufacturing €163.2 million, and EIT Culture & Creativity €131.6 million. Additionally, €208 million is allocated to the EIT Higher Education Initiative, which has already engaged over 600 institutions and helped thousands of students and staff develop entrepreneurial skills. An extra €79.3 million will fund cross-KIC activities, open to financially autonomous KICs like Climate-KIC, EIT Digital, and InnoEnergy.
Stefan Dobrev, Chair of the EIT Governing Board, commented that this decision steers resources to the best-performing innovation ecosystems, integrating research, industry, and entrepreneurship.
With this significant funding, the EIT aims to tackle Europe's most pressing challenges, from health and climate change to urban mobility and cultural innovation. The EIT Higher Education Initiative also continues to play a crucial role in fostering entrepreneurial skills among the next generation of innovators.
