Cybersecurity Threats Surge: 2% of Bosses Can Spot Phishing

Cybersecurity threats continue to escalate, with businesses and educational institutions increasingly under siege. A mere 2% of bosses can identify all signs of a phishing attack, highlighting a pressing need for enhanced security awareness and protection.

The education sector is the most targeted globally, with 4,356 attacks per organization each week, a 41% increase year-on-year. In Germany alone, schools and universities faced an average of over 4,000 attacks per week per institution in 2025, a 48% rise from the previous year in Europe. The APAC region is particularly hard hit, averaging 7,869 attacks per organization per week.

High-profile businesses have also paid dearly for inadequate cybersecurity measures. The rising sophistication of attacks underscores the urgent need for serious action. Education's reliance on online platforms and limited budgets make it an attractive target. A staggering 78% of companies have been targeted with ransomware in the last year.

Without significant improvements in cybersecurity awareness and protection, companies and educational institutions will remain vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated attacks. The education sector, in particular, must prioritize bolstering its cybersecurity resources to safeguard sensitive data and protect students and staff.
