College education to grant academic credit for civic duties and community service at Park University.
Park University Introduces Civic Engagement Portfolio Program
Park University, founded in 1875, is enhancing its commitment to community involvement by introducing the Civic Engagement Portfolio program. This innovative initiative aims to equip students with the value of service in a global society upon completion.
Through the program, students can earn college credit for their civically engaged activities. To be eligible, students must have community service experiences from their junior year of high school and beyond, with these experiences falling within five years prior to attending Park University.
The program values community service as an invaluable experience and encourages students to document and reflect on their activities related to community service, volunteer work, internships, or other civic participation. Students can earn 3 credit hours for every 120 hours of community service, up to a maximum of 9 credit hours for 360 hours of community service and increased leadership responsibilities.
Requirements may include completing a set number of service hours, participating in community projects, submitting reflective writings or reports, and demonstrating a commitment to civic responsibility. Ideal candidates for this program are students involved in community or service organizations or those who have served on mission trips.
The Civic Engagement Portfolio program provides information on the Citizenship and Service minor on the Park University website. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to relate practical experience to interdisciplinary and integrative thinking, enhancing their resume credentials, developing leadership and interpersonal skills, and preparing them for careers involving public service.
The program includes the courses: Introduction to Leadership (CA 233), Leadership for Civic Engagement (CA 493), and electives. The new program allows students to earn a minor in citizenship and service from Park University in just 18 credit hours.

Pursuing the Civic Engagement Portfolio program at Park University offers students opportunities for both education-and-self-development and personal-growth, as they learn to relate practical experience to interdisciplinary and integrative thinking while enhancing their leadership and interpersonal skills. Upon completion, students will not only earn a minor in citizenship and service but also demonstrate their commitment to civic responsibility, positioning themselves positively in the job market for careers involving public service.
