Climate demonstration titled 'Heroes for Future' commences in Aschaffenburg
In the heart of Bavaria, the city of Aschaffenburg has taken a significant step towards climate education with the launch of the innovative "Heroes for the Future" Climate Rally. This app-supported event, held on the Schloßplatz, is designed for children aged 8 and above, and offers a unique, interactive approach to understanding health risks associated with climate factors.
The Climate Rally is part of the ZebRA project, a comprehensive initiative that provides information on climate change and health for various target groups, including children, adults, and older people. The rally, developed by the LGL as part of the ZebRA research project, is funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Health and Care (StMGP).
Participants in the rally must find their way through ten stations from the Schlossplatz to the Großmutterwiese. The route is barrier-free, low-traffic, and suitable for a one-hour family outing for older children and all interested parties with a smartphone.
The rally introduces health risks associated with climate factors through interactive stations like "Drinking in the Heat" and "Cooling with Trees". These stations, developed by the LGL as part of the ZebRA research project, aim to provide a fun and engaging learning experience.
Prof. Dr. med. Caroline Herr, who was present at the launch, stated that the ZebRA project helped develop products to reach citizens of all ages on their level, particularly the rally for children, young people, and their families.
Health Minister Judith Gerlach emphasised the purpose of the Climate Rally: "Our aim is to show children and families how climate change affects health and how they can protect themselves."
The Climate Rally is a valuable addition to the existing climate tours offered by the city's climate adaptation manager, demonstrating the local impacts of climate change and the importance of local action and awareness. As of May 2025, all Bavarian cities and communities can order their own Climate Rallies free of charge from the LGL.

The Climate Rally in Aschaffenburg is a testament to the city's commitment to climate education and a call to action for other Bavarian cities and communities to follow suit. By providing a fun, interactive, and accessible way to learn about climate change and health, the Climate Rally is making a difference, one family at a time.
